Search for Castro: Police yacht returns empty

Hope is fast fading as Marine police leading the search for hiplife musician Castro and a female friend who went missing Sunday on the Ada Lake turned up empty Monday afternoon.

There were earlier reports that some villegers discovered a body somewhere near Keta which many suspected Castro known in real life as Theophilus Tagoe, prompting the search party to divert attention to the place.

But Joy News’ Benjamin Tetteh reports that after several hours on the lake, the yacht of the Marine Police berthed, empty.

Castro and Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan were at Peace Holiday Resort, a beach resort in Ada on Friday for recreation. Castro and a female friend whose name has been given as Janet Bandu went 'missing' during a Jet Ski ride.

The search party has been concentrating its attention on the estuary, off the coast where a white man claimed he saw the two they went missing

The DCE for Ada East, John Ahortu told Joy News two parties – one on the lake and the other in the sea – are searching for the two.

He said a team has been dispatched to the resort to inspect all their life jackets, as the assembly insists all persons who ride on the lake wear life jacket.

Meanwhile, Robert Mensah, who said he was with Castro at the resort before he went missing, told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show that he has been overwhelmed by the level of dedication shown by the police.

According to him, the Marine police have been at the Peace Holiday Resort since last night and are working frantically to find the two.

Texas Executes Female Murderer

Suzanne Basso, a female murderer convicted for killing her mentally challenged boyfriend, Louis Musso, 59, in 1998 has been put to death in Texas, USA. This makes it the 14th time in the history of the US that a woman would be put to death for any crime.

Basso, 59, was lethally injected with Pentobarbital, a brain and nervous system attacking drug in front of two of her friends. She was declared dead 11 minutes later.

In a bid to inherit his insurance and benefit, she and five others had battered, bleached, and burnt Louis with cigarettes. Then they deposited his body in a ditch outside Houston, Texas. Suzanne was described during the trial as the ring leader in the crime. During her trial, her own daughter described her as a physical and sexual abuser.

Women make up about 2% of condemned US inmates with only 60 out of 3,100 on death row. Nearly 1,400 men have been put to death since the US Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976.

According to a recent study published in the journal of Cyberpsychology, Behaviour, and Social Networking, the social networking site can cause huge problems in relationships. CBS Los Angeles reports.

The site helps people connect or re-connect with previous partners, which may lead to emotional and physical cheating, splits and/or divorce.

Dr. Ramani Durvasula, a psychologist and relationship expert reveals people turn to Facebook as “an escape” from their real relationships and end up cheating with an ex or someone they met casually.

She also states that it can also ignite emotions like jealousy and insecurity. The study mainly applies to relationships which are 3-years or younger.

 

Understanding Ghanaian English (Ghenglish) 101

Ghenglish is what I call it. Yes! Ghenglish, the Ghanaian version of the Queen’s English. 
To any foreigner, it may sound outlandish and difficult to comprehend but to the Ghanaian, it is everyday English used in every conversation.
While this plethora of words, expressions and phrases are used understandably among Ghanaians and foreigners living in the country, they often leave first time visitors at sea.
After all, just as some words in the Queen’s English were either derived or borrowed from other languages, so have Ghanaians explored their linguistic creativity to come up with these phrases.
Infoboxx.com has been sampling some Ghenglish phrases and expressions.

“Can you hear the smell?” 
That’s how some Ghanaians would ask you if they want to inquire whether you smell something. Perhaps, it is only in Ghana that one can ‘hear’ a ‘smell’. Funny huh? Well, wait till you walk with an average Ghanaian who would want to exhibit his grasp of the English language.
“I’m going to come” 
Don’t get it twisted. The person actually means, “I will be right back”.
“I’m coming” 
So you called this guy passing by and he responds, ‘I’m coming’, while still in motion. Don’t rack your brain; it’s not worth it. He meant, “I’ll be with you shortly”. 
“Branch at the next junction”
In a country where landmarks serve better in giving directions than the compass, many Ghanaians use the expression “branch at the next junction” to mean “turn at the next junction”.
“It will start in 10 minutes time”
The programme is delayed, and the MC pleads, “It will start in 10 minutes time” instead of “It will start in 10 minutes”. It’s a Ghanaian thing!
“Sorry for left”
 Ghanaians are certainly a courteous people. So much they would apologise for handing something to you with the left hand, “sorry for left”. It’s an economised version of “sorry for using my left hand”. 

“Drop me here” or “I’ll drop here”
You hear this often in public transport – trotros and taxis. The passenger tells the driver, “drop me here” or I’ll drop here”. All what that means is “I will alight here”.
“Give me my balance”
Still on the public transport or at the shop, the chap after making payment requests, give me “my balance”. Balance is Ghenglish for “change”.
“Last price”
“What’s your last price?” You’ll often hear this while bargaining the price of some service or item. It could come from either party and means lowest price offer.
“Home-used”
This term is used in reference to second hand goods usually from Europe, America and Asia. For example, “home-used car” or “home-used electronic appliances”.
“Flash me”
And hey! You make a new friend in Ghana and ask for a cell phone number. You will hear expressions like “let me flash you so you store my number” or “I will flash you for you to call me”. Flash means missed call.
“Light off!”
You know you are in Ghana when the whole neighbourhood screams in unison - “light off!”. This is easy right? “Light-off!” is the synonym for blackout.
“Repeat again”
Another common Ghenglish phrase one would easily notice is “repeat again”. I’m sure you’re saying that’s tautology. Yes, it is and that’s Ghenglish for you.

Muntari: ‘Seedorf knows everything’

Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari hailed new Milan Coach Clarence Seedorf, but Max Allegri “will always remain in my heart.”

The midfielder spoke to Sky Sport Italia only a few weeks into Seedorf’s tenure as a tactician.

“When we were on the field together, he’d always give me a lot of advice, so the rapport between us has not changed,” said the Ghana international.

“He is now our Coach and continues to give us all advice. We need to follow his orders because he is wonderful and I can tell from the training sessions he can do very well.

“We are all convinced of Seedorf’s qualities, because he knows everything about football.”

Seedorf was drafted in earlier than expected due to the dismissal of Allegri last month.

“I was upset at his sacking, as is only normal when someone dear to you is sent away,” continued Muntari.

“He was the one who wanted me at Milan and I will forever be grateful for that. He will always remain in my heart like all my other Coaches, from Jose Mourinho to Luciano Spalletti and Giampiero Ventura.”

Eastern European hackers caught selling Target customer card data

Eastern European cyber criminals have been caught selling customer data stolen during a raid on US retailer Target, say security researchers at FireEye.
The Target breach is believed to have occurred between 27 November and 15 December. It saw hackers break into Target's systems and compromise over 40 million credit and debit card accounts.
The criminals are believed to have stolen customers' credit and debit card numbers, card expiration dates and debit card PIN numbers.
Senior researcher at FireEye Narottama Villeneuve told V3 the stolen card details were being sold on underground Russian-language forums. "It is not surprising that the data is being sold on underground forums. The buyers may use the card data to make fraudulent purchases. Often, these activities are conducted via ‘pack mules' or ‘re-shipping fraud'," he said.
Villeneuve said FireEye uncovered evidence suggesting the criminals have started developing sophisticated partnerships, known as partnerkas, to maximise their profits.
"The partnerkas are organised using an affiliate model. A source, for say malware, will use a network of re-sellers to sell the malware to operators who actually use the malware," said Villeneuve.
"These operators purchase bulletproof hosting for their operation from providers who market this hosting in a similar way. In effect, the more publicised operations that we hear about in the news rely upon a cybercrime ecosystem that is always operating and adapting – these are not isolated events."
Bulletproof hosting is a service offered by less scrupulous web hosting firms, which gives customers more freedom over what material they can upload. In the past Bulletproof hosts have been used for a variety of criminal purposes, including running cyber black markets, such as those discovered by FireEye, and child pornography sites.
FireEye researchers said the underground markets are also being used as forums to sell malware. The researchers said the malware is currently being sold for between $1,800 to $2,300.
Villeneuve told V3 that the malware will inevitably be used by hackers to mount further data-stealing attacks, but highlighted recent success by law enforcement in shutting down similar operations as cause for hope.
"We expect these types of breaches to continue. However, it should be noted that there have been successful law enforcement actions against those engaged in coding and using malware designed to commit banking and credit card theft or fraud. Recently, the author of SpyEye was arrested as were those behind Carberp," said Villeneuve.
SpyEye is a financially focused malware that is believed to have stolen hundreds of millions of dollars of financial data. The SpyEye author, Aleksandr Andreevich Panin, was arrested by US authorities on 1 July 2013 at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. He pleaded guilty to helping create and distribute the SpyEye malware in January.

Ghanaian ladies are better than Zimbabwean ladies - Elikem

Ghanaian Big Brother housemate Elikem Kumordzie on Wednesday touched a raw nerve following claims that he said Zimbabwean women were less attractive than those from his home country.

Elikem who is currently in Zimbabwe running a business with his reality TV fellow star girlfriend Pokello Nare was speaking to one of the local papers when he said Ghanaian women were better than Zimbabweans.

He was quoted as having said: “Ghanaian women are more beautiful compared to Zimbabwean women because they know how to take good care of themselves fashion wise… They have manners and are well cultured, I can say they are ahead and better off than Zimbo ladies except for my Pokello who has lived up to my billing.”

Apparently the proclamation did not go down well with both Zimbabwean men and women some of who took to social networks venting their anger although the bitter truth is that Robert Mugabe even said that decade ago.

On manners most brought into the picture Elikem’s darling who apparently became popular in the country after her sextape was leaked to the media and the public.

While others responded mildly saying it was his opinion others launched scathing attacks on the 25 year old ridiculing Pokello.

Ba Mufaro said on Facebook: “Eh…cde…it is not our fault that Elikem chose the wrong sample…”

Others called the Ghanaian a gold digger who was busy surviving on handouts from Pokello whose mother is married to Local Government Minister Ignatious Chombo.

This interestingly gives weight to speculation at the beginning of their relationship outside the Big Brother House that it would be an alliance of convenience.

Back then, some claimed Pokello would dump Elikem the same way she had dumped her rapper boyfriend Stunner.

Stunner with whom she filmed the sextape was dumped on television and many felt it was because Pokello had found the fame that she wanted with him.

Sections of the media called it a plot that was rolling out but it appears for now the relationship has survived against all odds.

Selena Gomez Seeks Treatment Over Justin Breakup

Elizabeth has addressed reports stating that she had an affair with former president of the United States of America ‘Bill Clinton’
The actress dismantled rumors saying that she had a fling with the president which lasted for a year. Hurley took to twitter following Radar Online’s report about the affair, she tweeted; “Ludicrously silly stories about me & Bill Clinton. Totally untrue. In the hands of my lawyers. Yawn.”
Radar Online claims that the actress’ ex-boyfriend, Tom Sizemore met Clinton at a special screening of “Saving Private Ryan” at the White House in 1998, asked for Elizabeth Hurley’s number and flew her to Washington on a private jet, and had sexual transaction with the 48-year-old.

David Beckham Launches MLS Franchise In Miami

Former England captain David Beckham said he is "living a dream" as he outlined his plans for a new Miami-based Major League Soccer franchise.
The 38-year-old, who retired as a player last May, wants to recruit some of "the best players" to help make the club "loved by millions".
He said a world-class stadium would be built to host the franchise, which would be the 22nd in the MLS.
"I want to make this my own team," said the ex-Manchester United midfielder.
No date has been set for when the side would enter the MLS.

Beckham's option to purchase a franchise is believed to have been part of the financial package he negotiated when he joined LA Galaxy in 2007. He played for the MLS club until 2012.

The former midfielder, who also had spells with Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris St-Germain, added: "This is an exciting time for myself, my family, my friends and partners, and it is something we are really looking forward to bringing to Miami.

"We're planning to bring a team that will be a global team. I want to create a team that we can start from scratch and I am going to work hard for this city to make this team very successful. It is an exciting time.
"I have worked with some of the biggest clubs and greatest players and this is a dream."

Beckham, who won the Champions League, the Premier League, La Liga and Ligue 1 as a player, would not confirm any names of players he wants to attract to Miami.

"We will bring great players in," he said. "The fortunate thing about my career is players are already interested in coming to Miami.

"The one thing I want to achieve is to set up a kids' academy. We want local talent, not just great players from abroad.

"The way the US team have improved has been incredible and the only way that will continue is to have good academies."
Beckham has long had an ambition to own a team in the US.

His representatives held talks with the MLS about the possibility of him buying a franchise shortly before his retirement, while basketball superstar LeBron James said in November that he was in discussion with Beckham about investing in the planned Miami club.
The MLS currently consists of 19 teams, but the league announced in 2013 that two further sides  would join in 2015.

Those will be Orlando City SC and New York City, which is part-owned by Manchester City.
The last MLS team in Miami folded after being in existence for four seasons. It struggled with sparse attendance and had the lowest revenue in the league.
